T&F Meet Results from Greely 1

On what was supposed to be a windy rainy day the sun shined through the clouds for almost the entire meet creating the perfect setting for some top-end performances.  NYA athletes broke 2 boys school records and 1 girls record, set tons of season and career bests, rewrote the boys and girls top 5 lists and added to our already impressive list of state qualifiers.  Meet results can be found here

Henry and Mark en route to the 2 fastest 800s in the state this year

Hannah Bewsey just slipped under the old school record (50.32) in the 300 Hurdles to win the event in 50 seconds flat coming off of a very strong leg in the girls 4×800.  Mohamed Dahia debuted in the 110m Hurdles with an impressive time of 16.6 seconds to finish first and shatter the old school record of 17.46.  Henry Sterling had a huge breakthrough in the 800 running a 1:56.7 breaking the old school record in the 800 of 1:57.3.  Henry has been struggling to run under the 2 minute barrier in the 800 his entire outdoor career but with the right competition he was able to show what he was really made of.

In the field events – AJ “Ox” Hardy continued his steady improvement in the discus with a huge career best of 79′ and Morgan Scully hit bests in all 3 of her throwing events for the day.  Emily Harrison has been on the rise every meet she has thrown the shot improving almost 1 foot per meet.   The boys pole vault pit saw all 3 vaulters improve on their bests with Alden Kelsey clearing 9’6″, Cam Regan 8’6″, and Evan Kendall 8′.

On the track the girls 4×800 started the meet as the only girls team in the 4×800, but running alone didn’t stop them from running an NYA top 5 time of 10:59 (Hannah Bewsey, Hadley Gibson, Hillary Detert, Maggie Meixell).  Doug Goldstein made his season debut in the 1600 racewalk clocking 9:33, Doug looked the best technique-wise I have ever seen him, look out states…  In the 1600 Hillary Detert continued to improve in the mile dropping almost 10 seconds off her season best and qualifying provisionally for the state meet.  On the boys side Alex Coffin, Cam Regan, Evan Kendall and Rudy Guliani hit new season bests of 4:47.4, 4:50.1, 5:05.7 and 5:06.1 and the best part is that they are all sophomores!  The girls 800 was an insanely large field and Hadley Gibson fought through the waves to drop her season best by 10 seconds running a 2:46.1 and qualifying provisionally for the state championship.

The meet ended with an exciting boys

4×400 (Asad Dahia, Mohamed Dahia, Nick Kolkin, Henry Sterling) as the boys held the lead for the majority of the race but slipped into 2nd near the last handoff to Henry Sterling.  Henry ran a blistering leg splitting 52 seconds flat to catch York at the line and win the race in 3:39.5.

The golden shoe was awarded by the boys captains to Mohamed for his outstanding times and distances in all of his events (300 hurdles 1st place, 110 hurdles 1st place and new school record, TJ 2nd place and running a leg on the winning 4×400) while the girls shoe was awarded to Hillary Detert for her first ever meet completing 3 events WHILE setting bests in all 3 (her 800 in the 4×800, the 1600, and the 3200 where she missed the state qualifier by .1 seconds).

The girls team finished in 3rd, and the Boys team 4th.
