T&F Results – Girls team wins MAISAD Championship and Boys team earns 2nd

NYA Girls win 2010 MAISAD Championship

Results can be found here.

The MAISAD Championship ended up being a 2 day meet that started on Saturday with the decision to postpone the javelin, high jump, triple jump, pole vault, both hurdle events and the girls discus until Tuesday afternoon.  The rest of the events were held during the day on Saturday in the wind, rain, and cold.

The girl’s team continued its streak (I looked it up we started in 2000) of winning every MAISAD championship we have attended since 2000.  We missed it in 2007 due to a scheduling conflict so that makes 10 titles in 11 years and 10 out of 10 for meets we were actually at.  It ended up being a very close meet with the girls team in 3rd after Saturday and several athletes coming up huge for us today to pull ahead.  Of note, Jaime and Katie hit state qualifying marks and career bests in the javelin and discus respectively.  The captains awarded the golden shoe to Jaime after her huge best in the javelin and her sneaky ability to pull out a very unexpected place in the shotput.  The girls team actually blanketed the scoresheets with points earning a ribbon in every single event that was contested if not 2.

The boys team held the lead coming into today but in the end were defeated 140-127 by Hyde for 2nd place.  Though their team history is varied in MAISAD competition we continued our strong showing by earning top finishes in almost all events we competed in, we just lacked the team depth in some of the key events with some events going by with no NYA entries.  That being said it was amazing how close we came.  The boys pole vault was a key event for us today as Alden continued his reliable performances and Cam R. and Evan vaulted for the first time pulling in some much needed points.  Grant McPherson made a huge debut in the 400 running both the open event and a leg on the 4×400.  The boys awarded the golden shoe to Rudy Guliani after his amazing 30+ second PR in the 3000.
