Outdoor Track & Field


Both the NYA boys and girls outdoor track & field teams compete in the Western Maine Conference (WMC), which is made up of both Class B and Class C teams. The team ultimately competes at the Class C level during the state competition. NYA has always had very strong track & field athletes and has become a top WMC team starting in 2004. In addition, both outdoor track & field teams compete in the MAISAD league. Between both the boys and girls teams, NYA has won the MAISAD title 17 times since 2000, including 3 consecutive wins starting in 2008.

The NYA boys outdoor track & field team carries a tradition of excellence. Since 1996, the boys have earned 140 total individual ribbons with 28 being first-place at the WMC conference meet. Relays have earned NYA 31 ribbons, including 3 conference champions. At states, the boys have earned 104 total individual medals, including 18 state champions. For the relays, NYA boys have earned 18 relay medals with 7 of them being state champions. Athletes regularly continue on to compete in the New England and National Championships during the post-season. Currently NYA athletes hold several WMC and State Records. The boys’ team won the Class C State Championship Meet in ’06, ’07, ’08, and ’09.

The NYA girls outdoor track & field team has a history of excellence and since 1996, the girls have earned 155 total individual ribbons, including 27 first-place ribbons at the WMC Class C meet. The relays have grabbed 20 ribbons, including 1 championship ribbon. At the state level, girls have earned 16 state championships with a total of 70 individual ribbons. Relay teams have had 2 first-place state finishes and a total of 20 state medals. The girls’ team has finished as high as 2nd in the state meet. Athletes regularly continue on to compete in the New England and National Championships during the post-season. Currently NYA athletes hold several WMC and State Records.
