NYA Boys XC: Home Victory on Senior Day

15 October 2010

The NYA Boys cross-country team continued its winning ways by wrapping up the regular season with  convincing wins over Greely (who rested its varsity seven), Waynflete, and Merriconeag-Waldorf at the Royal River Park today.  Although the weather looked dicey early in the day, the rain had stopped by race time, so although the 3.0-mile  course was quite muddy, the racing conditions were cool and pleasant.

NYA’s top finisher of the day was Evan Kendall, who went out hard with the race leaders and finished a very respectable 3rd place overall (17:06).  Cam Regan helped pace a pack of other NYA runners through 2 miles before releasing to pick up more places.  He finished 4th in a relaxed 17:48.  Senior Elliot Daniels finished his regular season career as NYA’s third man again this week (6th / 17:54) followed closely by Rudy Guliani (7th / 17:57).  Brian Trelegan ran another strong race as NYA’s fifth scorer (10th / 18:15).  Grant McPherson hung tough for 13th place overall (18:42).  On Senior Day, Nick Kolkin set a personal record and snuck into the Varsity Seven with his 19:56* (27th place) finish.

NYA’s score of 30 was well ahead of Waynflete (47), Merriconeag (55), and Greely (92).

Next week begins the post-season.  On Saturday 10/23 the Western Regional Championships will be held at Twin Brooks.  This is the state qualifying meet and will require the team’s full concentration.

Only those runners on the postseason roster will practice from here on out.  All other runners should turn in their uniforms as soon as possible.  Congratulations on a strong regular season, boys!
