NYA travelled down to York High School on Friday for a regular season meet against York, Cape Elizabeth, Lake Region, and Seacoast. The weather was perfect (in the low 60s) and the meet was run efficiently despite the massive amount of athletes gathered at the track. While the official scoring is still yet to released preliminary estimates have the boys team finishing in 2nd behind York while the girls held on for 4th over Cape.
In the sprints NYA was led by Michael McIntosh ’14 who won the 100m dash by a large margin in 11.8. In a seperate heat Dean Walters ’13 was able to gap the pack by over 5m to beat out several runners from the previous heat and place 4th. On the girls side the competition was stiff and NYA was left with no points on the board but saw strong efforts from 2 new athletes to the 100m – Sonia Lin ’16 and Maddie Cutten ’15 while Morganne Elkins ’16 was able to beat her previous best in the event by almost half a second! In the 200m Dean Walters earned NYA its only points in the event after finishing 2nd in a tight race where he was pushed all the way to line. Hannah’s time also started her ascent up the top 5 all-time list in the 1600m (which can be found under the records in the menu bar to the left). On the boys side Matt Malcom ’15 ran a 10 second season best in the 1600m to dip under 5 minutes with a time of 4:53 which was good for 2nd place. In the triple jump Linnea Hull ’16 added 9″ to her personal best distance to finish with a distance of 26’6″ while on the boys side Jake Burns was just off his best by 1″.
