9/15/2012 – NYA’s boys cross-country team continued its season of improvement Friday with a stirring second place finish at Pratt’s Brook in Yarmouth. Every runner on the team dropped his time on the year – many with personal records – and the team finished a season-best second place with 44 points, behind Yarmouth (33) but ahead of Gray-New Gloucester (65) and Lake Region (87).
NYA’s top runner was once again sophomore Matt Malcom’15, whose 17:14 over the wooded 3-mile course was a personal record and a full minute and a half ahead of his last race at this distance only two weeks ago. Matt finished in second place in the field of 44 runners.
Second on the day for the Panthers was senior captain Jake Burns ’13. Jake’s time of 18:22 was more than a minute faster than two weeks ago and good for fourth place overall.
John LeBlanc ’15 was NYA’s third runner. John had the performance of the day with a sixth place overall finish; he smashed more than three minutes off his 3-mile time from two weeks ago to set a new personal record of 18:34.
NYA’s fourth runner was Haley Cunningham ’15, who continues to show excellent improvement in his first season of running. Haley’s time of 19:58 (three full minutes faster than the Falmouth race) brought him home in fifteenth place overall.
The final scorer for NYA was Jin Yao ’14, whose 20:45 (22nd place) was more than a minute and a half better than his race two weeks ago.
Josh Chapman ’16 cracked the varsity squad in his first race, taking sixth place on the team (and 30th overall) with a time of 20:48.
Rounding out NYA’s varsity seven was Andy Liu ’14. Andy’s 22:04 (33rd place) was more than two and a half minutes faster than his Falmouth race and was a new personal record.
Aldis Gamble ’13 and Johnny Xu Li ’15 also competed in the race. Aldis took 36th with a time of 23:04 and Johnny was 38th in 23:15.
