Freeport feels the wrath of Elliot

The NYA boys cross-country team won the Class C Western Maine Regional Meet held today at Twin Brook in Cumberland.  The cool, blustery conditions did not slow the runners down at all, as five of NYA’s seven runner set personal records on the rolling, difficult 3.1-mile Twin Brook course.  NYA’s 61 points put it ahead of Freeport (85),  Waynflete (91), Boothbay (108), and 10 other teams in the 98-man field.

Leading the NYA pack was Cam Regan, whose 17:12* (*personal record) time was good for 6th place overall.  Cam was followed closely by Evan Kendall (17:25* / 7th place).  Both Cam and Evan received individual medals for their top-ten performances.  Cam and Evan’s breakout races accounted for 19 of the 24 point margin of victory over Freeport.  The rest of NYA’s pack was equally impressive.  Rudy Guliani’s 18:01* put him in 15th place.  Elliot Daniels (18:18* / 17th) thrilled the NYA fans at the race with a blazing kick in the final 100 meters to pass four Freeport runners.  Rounding out NYA’s scoring five was Grant McPherson, whose bold move at the 1-mile mark catapulted him to 24th in 18:28*.  Brian Trelegan (18:51 / 31st) was NYA’s sixth man and Ian Moore (19:48 / 48th) also ran a very strong race.  Both Brian and Ian displaced scoring runners from the vast majority of the other teams in the race.

Brian looks to pass yet another runner.

NYA’s victory marks it as the leading target for the other Class C teams in the State Meet to be held in Belfast next Saturday 10/30.  The boys will have to continue to peak in their performances if they want to cap the season with a state title.

Look for more information coming soon about our trip to Belfast next weekend.  Congratulations to the runners!
