Indoor Track & Field Meet 4

January 20, 2017

The NYA Indoor Track & Field Team had a strong showing at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham on Friday night.  This was our fourth meet of a long cold season.  We have just one more regular season meet before the championship season begins on February 8th at the Western Maine Conference Championships.

On the track, the meet started with the 55m Hurdles.  Jack Lent ’19 ran in the junior division for the 2nd week in a row and for the 2nd week in a row, he placed in the event.  Jack was 5th this week with a PR time of 10.13 which is also good for 2nd on the NYA Top 5 All-Time List.  Next up was the 55m dash where Marley Boettcher ’20 was just a few hundredths of a second off of her season best time in the junior division.  In the senior division, Tessa Quattrucci ’18 ran her season best time by .02.  For the boys, Markus Russell ’19 and Samson Shen ’20 represented NYA in the junior division.  Markus ran another personal best finishing in 7.37 (.11 faster) and placing 2nd in the meet.  Samson ran a strong race and finished with a .08 second PR.  In the senior division, half of our shot put squad (Jack Sillin ’18 and Reece Bartolini ’18) both just missed personal bests.  Later in the meet, the sprinters continued with the 200m dash where Markus and Samson both dropped significant time off of their PRs (26.79 and 30.54 respectively).  In the 400m dash, our sole representative was Jack Lent in the junior division.  Jack finished in 4th place earning 4 points of the team and just missed his PR.

In the distance events, Megan Alberding ’18 and Sarah Austin ’17 started us off with strong efforts in the mile.  Megan ran almost 4 seconds faster than last week and just missed a state qualifying time while Sarah was just shy of her personal best.  On the boy’s side, Kieran Rowe ’18 ran his career best time of 5:24.09.   Sarah and Kieran came back after a short rest to race in the 800m dash and Kieran proved what willpower can do by finishing in 2:28 which is his second personal best of the night (by over 3 seconds).  They were joined by Henry Quesada ’17 who was able to grab a 5th place spot.

In the jumps, Isabelle See ’17 continued her dominance in the high jump with a first place finish (4’10”).  Cam Pickle ’20 was the sole long jumper to hit a season best this week but his improvement was extraordinary (almost 2′).  Tessa wasn’t far off of her best mark either.

The throwing circle the boys had a phenomenal night.  In the junior division, Jack Bontatibus just missed scoring in 8th place and Cam Pickle tossed 3″ foot PR!  For the seniors Reece led the way for NYA with an almost 4′ PR to place 4th with a throw of 37′ 6.75″ Jack Sillin ’18 wasn’t far behind at almost 34′ and Xander Bartone ’17 had an 8″ PR (closing in on 30′)  in his second ever meet competing in the shot.

Next week will be a big week for NYA Track & Field.  Our last regular season competition will be at 6:30pm at USM.  If you would like to see more photos from the meet or the full results please click the links below or follow the menu at the top of the page.  Also, don’t forget to follow NYA Track & Field on Instagram (nyatrackxc)
