NYA Boys XC Third at Falmouth Meet

9/1/12 – The NYA Boys Cross Country team took third place yesterday in the opening race of the WMC conference schedule.  On a humid day at Falmouth Community Park’s hilly 3.0 mile course, the team lined up against Lake Region and perennial Class B powerhouses York and Falmouth.  The final score was Falmouth 19, York 52, NYA 77, and Lake Region 104.

Matt Malcom ’15 led the team again with a strong fifth place overall finish (out of 86 runners).  His time of 18:41 was nearly a minute better than his time at the same meet last year.

Senior Jake Burns ’13 also ran a determined race as NYA’s second scorer.  Jake’s steady pace allowed him to move up through the pack to finish an impressive 12th overall in 19:37, more than 30 seconds faster than last year’s race.

John LeBlanc ’15 started out very well in the race and hung on to finish in 32nd place overall as NYA’s third runner.  His time of 21:26 was nearly two minutes faster than last year and John is eager to see even further improvement this fall.

Jin Yao ’14 also improved in his second race ever.  His strong first mile put him in position to clinch the fourth NYA spot (41st overall) in 21:12.

NYA’s final varsity scorer was Haley Cunningham ’15.  In his first race ever, Haley’s 22:57 was good for 51st place overall.  Andy Liu ’14 also finished his first race, with a fine 24:31 effort (67th overall).  And Ian Bennett ’15 rounded out NYA’s varsity seven.  Ian battled allergy issues to run a gutsy 27:20 (81st).

Full results can be found here and here are more photos of the meet.  We next race on Friday 9/6 at Twin Brook in Cumberland.  Come cheer us on!
