Another day another school record for Mohamed. Except this time it was 2. Mohamed Dahia broke his own 110m hurdle record once again blitzing to a 15.8s hand time at Traip Academy on Friday. He also had a massive jump in the triple jump hitting 40′ 9.75″ to break Mike Moody’s 5 year old record by 2 inches.
Jonas Damion ran a big season best in the 100m dash and followed it up with a strong first showing in the long jump hitting 15’5″ in his first ever attempt at the event.
The 1600m was a very successful event for NYA on Friday. On the girls side Hadley Gibson ran a strong first 1600m of the season just missing the state qualifying mark and finishing well under her personal goal. For the boys Cam Regan and Alex Coffin led the way with Cam finishing in a career best time of 4:43 followed closely by Alex in 4:45. Even if you ignore the wind coming down the final straight-away those are impressive times.
In the 400 NYA ran away, literally, with the event with Morgan Scully winning the girls race and Evan Kendall winning the boys. The 300m hurdles were another fine point for NYA as Maura Anderson got 2nd on the girls side and dropped her time by a second while Mo dropped almost 4 seconds off his season best time to win the event followed closely by Jake Burns in his debut hurdle race of the season. Jake finished in 45.1 which qualifies him automatically for state competition and earned 3rd place.
The boys 800m was an exciting race with Cam Regan finishing 2nd with a career best, Grant McPherson finishing 3rd with a 7 second career best, and Asad Dahia finishing 4th with a 2 second season best.
In the 3200m Evan Kendall won the event leading it from start to finish and dropped his time to 10:32 while Kayla Rose won the event on the girls side finishing the race in 16:19. That was Kayla’s first 3200m run.
Both the boys and the girls 4x400m relays ran season bests. Hillary, Hadley, Morgan, and Moira combined to run 4:50 and finish 2nd while Alex, Jake B., Cam, and Grant put together a strong time of 3:44 in a tight race to the finish to end up 3rd.
In the field events: The high jump was a challenge at Traip since the entire approach area was grass except for the take-off area right next to the mats. This effected the boys adversely but didn’t seem to bother the girls as Moira Lachance was able to up her best by 2″ hitting 4’8″ to win the event and Adela McVicar in her first jump of the season cleared 4’6″ for 2nd. Both girls are now qualified to compete at the state championship.
In the triple jump Mo may have broken the record but his brother Asad was not far behind. Asad hit a 2′ career best jumping 38’10” which was good for 3rd and strong surge up the all-time list. Brian Trelegan was also a guest star in the triple jump pit having learned the event the day before Brian hit a respectable 28′ jump. In the long jump Jonas Damion had that strong first showing but Mo and Asad each had great days with Mo hitting a season best distance of 18’10. At the pole vault pit, the everlasting pole vault pit, the meet wound down with Cam Regan the only vaulter still in. Cam won the event with a vault of 9’6″ followed closely by Evan Kendall in 8’6″ for 3rd and Alden Kelsey for 4th.
In the throws: Emily Harrison continued her steady stream of improvements hitting bests in both the Javelin and the Discus. Alden Kelsey and AJ Hardy finished 4-5 respectively in the discus against a strong Greely squad and both his career bests on the day with Alden at 95’10” and AJ at 92’1″. AJ followed that up with a second season best in the shotput as well. A strong day for the Ox. Elanor West improved in the Javelin for the 3rd straight week breaking the 40′ mark with a throw of 41’2″.
The golden shoe was given to Grant McPherson on the boys side for his outstanding drive and efforts in the open 800m and the 4x400m relay. Grant ran a 7 second career best in the 800m running 2:08 and cut almost 4 seconds off of his 400m time to help out the 4×400 with a 56 second split. The girls shoe was awarded to Kayla Rose who stepped to the line for the 3200m with next to no training just because the team needed her there. She won the event with little to no training and a HUGE heart.
The team was great about supporting each other, respecting the rules, cleaning our space, and properly warming up and cooling down. Congratulations on a job well done! The team is back in action on Thursday at Sacopee Valley.

Boy, that was a massive jump for Mo.. It was great fun to watch and he seemed to have some fine competition as well. a great motivator!
