NYA Boys XC: Victory over Yarmouth, Waynflete

10 September 2010

On Friday, the NYA Boys Cross-Country team staked their claim to leadership in the small school division of the WMC with a convincing victory over Yarmouth, Waynflete, Traip, and Wells in cool conditions at Pratt’s Brook park in Yarmouth.

NYA scored a very low 23 points for the win.  Yarmouth was second (45 points) and Waynflete scored 65.  Traip and Wells did not field scoring teams.

The rough, wooded 3.15 mile course kept the runners hidden from the spectators for most of the race, but when the leaders emerged from the trails, Cam Regan was right on the shoulder of the top Yarmouth runner.  Then, in a dramatic finish, Cam pulled around his rival on the final hill and won the race going away in 18:19.

What followed was virtually a parade of NYA runners.  Evan Kendall finished 3rd (18:50).  Rudy Guliani was 4th (19:12) despite taking a spill in the final mile.  Brian Trelegan ran another strong race for 9th place (19:49) followed closely by the rest of NYA’s varsity seven: Grant McPherson (10th / 19:57), Elliot Daniels (11th / 20:32), and Jake Susla (13th / 20:48).

Other NYA runners in the 40-runner field included: Ian Moore (15th / 20:59), Robert Field (17th / 21:12), Nick Kolkin (22nd / 22:11), Jonas Damion (25th / 23:10), Max Maurer (30th / 25:24), Alex Paige (33rd / 25:57), Ethan Liu (38th / 28:20), and Phong Ho (40th / 31:58).

Thanks to the many spectators who came out to cheer the team on.

NYA is next in action on Friday 17 September at Poland.
