The NYA boys cross-country team ran a very impressive race at Cape Elizabeth today in their opening WMC meet of the season. They finished in third place, behind Falmouth and Cape, and beat Lake Region for the second straight week. The weather was mercifully cooler than it had been during training this week, and the course was a fast, flat 3.0 miles for the 79 runners who toed the starting line.
The leading runners for NYA, Cam Regan and Evan Kendall, made a statement early on by going out hard with the Falmouth and Cape varsity packs. They didn’t back down at all as the top runners from these storied programs really pushed the pace. On the second loop in the woods, Cam made his move to drop the number 3 runners from Cape and Falmouth, and he held on to keep his place. Cam finished the race in 5th place (17:05) and Evan was close behind in 8th (17:12). NYA’s third runner was Rudy Guliani, who closed hard at the end to finish 11th (17:42). Brian Trelegan battled the humidity as well as a group of Cape and Falmouth runners for 17th place (18:19). Grant McPherson was NYA’s fifth scorer (24th / 18:53). Rounding out the varsity seven today were Jake Susla (27th / 19:18) and Robert Field (29th / 19:24)
Other NYA runners included: Ian Moore (33rd / 19:51), Elliot Daniels (36th / 19:58), Nick Kolkin (39th / 20:20), Max Maurer (67th / 24:18), Alex Paige (68th / 24:19), Ethan (76th / 30:44), and Phong Ho (77th, 31:49).
