Scarborough High School was the site of the Region 1 Junior Olympic Qualifying meet for the state of Maine today. The Junior Olympics are held annually at the local, regional and national level. It is an opportunity for athletes of all ages to compete in age divisions (10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18) in the olympic track events. In addition to the normal events they contest the steeplechase, the heptathlon/decathlon, the longer distance races, and the hammer throw. The top 6 in the qualifying meet can continue on to compete at the Regional Championship which will be held next weekend at Bowdoin College from Friday-Sunday.
