The Western Maine Conference Championship Track & Field Meet was split into 2 divisions for the first time in almost 10 years this weekend. The 16 teams that make up the WMC in T&F all competing together but the meet was scored seperated. The teams in division 2 are Wells, Yarmouth, Sacopee Valley, Traip, OOB, Waynflete, Freeport, and NYA. The girls were 2nd to Traip by a very close margin 136-122 and the boys were 3rd behind Sacopee and Traip. Full Results
Individually NYA had a day to remember. 3 school records were broken (Mohamed Dahia set the record in both the 110m Hurdles and the 300m Hurdles and Henry Sterling set the record in the 3200m), the top 5 lists changed around, a slew of new athletes qualified to compete in the state championships and the majority of the athletes on the team ended the day with at least one personal record.

Boys 4×800 – Alex Coffin, Nick Kolkin, Asad Dahia, Henry Sterling
Hillary Detert – 1600m and 3200m
Mohamed Dahia – 110m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles
Hannah Bewsey – High Jump
Cam Rayder – Shotput
Girls 4×400 – Ali O’Reilly, Maggie Meixell, Maeve Stier, Hannah Bewsey

Of the 6 girls entered in the shotput 5 of 6 set PRs with the 6th missing by only half an inch!
Ali O’Reilly and Lianna Hachborn improved their throws in the Discus and the Javelin respectively by almost 15%
Henry Sterling, with the support of the entire crowd, ran a solo race against in the clock in the 3200m trying to break a very strong record and narrowly missing running 9:20.90. His efforts in that race and the 2 relays he anchored earned him the John Casavola Award for the Outstanding Perfomer of the Meet in the running events — read more here. To round out NYAs dominance in the 3200m Cam Regan finished 2nd in the 3200mand Rudy Guliani finished 4th. Alex Coffin pulled in a nice PR in the 1600m running 4:43 for 3rd. Asad Dahia showed he is finally understanding the 800m running a new PR of 2:03.
Hillary Detert and Hadley Gibson represented NYA very well in the distances with Hillary winning the 1600m and 3200m and Hadley earned 3rd in the 1600m and 5th in the 800m.
The newly formed boys 4×100 team of Jay Garnett, Nick Rayder, Jake Susla, and Turner Kelsey worked hard all week on handoffs and had a nice payoff finishing 4th.
The hurdle squad had a great day, other then Mohamed breaking 2 records, Patrick Wappler took 1.5 seconds off of his 110m hurdle time to qualify for states and Jake Susla took about .5 seconds off to do the same. Jake also dipped under 50 seconds for the first time in the 300s running 49.97. Maggie Meixell had a great day running bests in all 4 of her events.

The boys’ golden shoe was given to Robert Field for his performance in the Javelin along with his overall team-first attitude. The girls’ shoe was awarded to Maggie Meixell for her huge day in setting PRs in both of her races and running significantly improved splits in both of her relays.
